Deputy Minister of Interior No. 2 led a meeting to resolve flooding problems in Nakhon Nayok, concluding to temporarily close the floodgates of Khun Dan Prakarn Chon Dam to reduce the volume of water that would further impact the area. He stressed the need to work against nature’s uncontrollable timing.
27 Sep 2026 GMT+7 Mr. Polpeer Suwannachawi, Deputy Minister of the Interior, visited the site at Khun Dan Prakarn Chon Dam in Mueang District, Nakhon Nayok Province, presiding over a meeting with Mr. Chanon Wasiksiri, Governor of Nakhon Nayok, the head of the Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, the director of the Nakhon Nayok Meteorological Station, and relevant agencies to discuss water management in Nakhon Nayok to prevent and alleviate impacts on daily life of residents and tourists.
Mr. Polpeer stated that due to heavy rainfall in Nakhon Nayok, water management at Khun Dan Prakarn Chon Dam requires continuous discharge, as it must also accommodate incoming water from Khao Yai National Park, but currently rainfall and water volume from Khao Yai have decreased. Therefore, it was decided to temporarily close the dam’s gates to reduce the amount of water flowing into Nakhon Nayok city and causing further flooding.
“All provincial agencies must work as one, using calculations from the Meteorological Department, weather conditions, rainfall forecasts both locally and upstream of the dam, today’s and upcoming rainfall, as well as the irrigation department’s water gate management and pumping operations, to provide clear and understandable information to the public and enable accurate advance forecasting.”
He emphasized that when alleviating flood impacts on residents, the province and all agencies must prioritize people’s well-being, ensuring they receive three meals daily and expedite recovery so residents can return to normal life as soon as possible.
At the meeting, Mr. Polpeer directly contacted Mr. Patthana Prompat, Minister of Public Health, to coordinate the supply of essential medicine kits, and General Adul Boonthamcharoen, Minister of Defense, to request naval support with water-pushing boats. He also ordered Mr. Theerapat Kachamat, Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, to deploy flat-bottom boats and large water pumps to support flood management in Nakhon Nayok province and its local administrative organizations.
“Our work today must race against nature’s uncontrollable timing, but the government and province will integrate efforts across agencies to assure the public they can return to normal daily life as soon as possible.”
