The Director of the Khon Kaen Election Commission Office revealed that the overall election for the Khon Kaen Provincial Administrative Organization chief proceeded smoothly throughout the day, but voter turnout did not meet the target. Unofficial election results are expected by no later than 10:30 PM.
At 6:00 PM on 27 September 2026, Mr. Watchara Sisan, Director of the Khon Kaen Election Commission Office, told reporters after the closing of the Khon Kaen Provincial Administrative Organization chief election that the entire voting process from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM went smoothly. Weather conditions may have affected voters' ability to travel, as there was light rain in some areas during the morning, which may have made it inconvenient for people to come out to vote.
The Khon Kaen Election Commission Office had set a target of 60% voter turnout. However, observation throughout the day showed that turnout was below this expectation. From the opening until closing of the polls, there were no reports of election law violations, so the overall management of this election was considered orderly.
Mr. Watchara added that regarding investigations into reported violations during the campaign period, there were two complaints related to electronic campaign advertising. These are currently under review by the responsible committee, which is verifying the information and facts.
When asked about the significant number of 'no vote' ballots in some polling stations and whether this might trigger a re-election, Mr. Watchara explained that 'no vote' counts only matter if they exceed the votes for any candidate. He assessed the likelihood of this happening as low, since each candidate has a substantial base of support.
Regarding the tallying and reporting of results, Mr. Watchara stated: Provided there are no weather disruptions—even though rain currently covers the entire province—he is confident that unofficial election results can be summarized and reported by no later than 10:30 PM. Following that, if no complaints or objections are filed, the commission will certify the election results within 30 days. If complaints or objections arise, certification will be extended to no more than 60 days from the election date.
