In the Khon Kaen Provincial Administrative Organization chief election, Pongsak Tangwanichkapong led decisively, defeating the incumbent Wathana Changlao from the Kla Tham Party by over one hundred thousand votes.
On 27 Sep 2026 GMT+7, a reporter reported that at 22:03, the Khon Kaen Provincial Administrative Organization's Facebook page announced that 100% of the votes had been unofficially counted.
Candidate number 1, Wathana Changlao from the Kla Tham Party, received 254,180 votes, placing second.
Candidate number 2, Pongsak Tangwanichkapong, received 424,397 votes, securing first place.
Candidate number 3, Sakda Silpadonbon, received 31,380 votes, placing third.
Candidate number 4, Pongsanirun Uthaikanjanakul, received 7,786 votes, placing fourth.
This voting was a re-election ordered by the Fourth Regional Court of Appeal due to allegations concerning the distribution of money to voters, identified as funds from candidate number 1. After reviewing the evidence, the court ordered a new election.
Following the unofficial vote count results, candidate number 2, Pongsak, held a clear lead over his rivals. Supporters, citizens, and close associates continuously arrived to offer congratulations and encouragement. Pongsak smiled warmly and expressed gratitude to the people of Khon Kaen for exercising their voting rights and placing their trust in him with a large number of votes.
Pongsak stated that after nearly two years away from managing the Khon Kaen Provincial Administrative Organization, he had not disappeared but used the time to rest and prepare himself to return to serve the people of Khon Kaen. During this break, he regained his strength and determination to help the community again. He affirmed his continued commitment, energy, and experience from past work, gathering knowledge and expertise from all sectors to drive Khon Kaen forward. Pongsak added that his urgent tasks upon taking office would include addressing drought and water issues, focusing on developing water sources, dredging streams, ponds, canals, and managing water resources to meet both drought challenges and local needs. He thanked all residents of Khon Kaen for their support and vowed to work diligently for the people of Khon Kaen.
