Prime Minister Anutin led the cabinet and government officials in a flag salute ceremony in front of the Santi Maitri Building at the Government House on Thai National Flag Day 2026.
At 08:00 on 28 Sep 2026 GMT+7 at the flagpole area in front of the Santi Maitri Building, Government House, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, who also serves as Minister of Interior, presided over the flag salute and the singing of the national anthem for Thai National Flag Day 2026. The event was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister, Ministers attached to the Prime Minister's Office, executives, and officials.
Following the cabinet resolution on 20 Sep 2016, 28 September of every year was designated as "Thai National Flag Day" to foster national pride and to honor the benevolence of King Vajiravudh, who granted the tricolor flag as the national flag on 28 Sep 1917.
Originally, the Thai national flag had various designs until the reign of King Vajiravudh (Rama VI) in 1917, when he graciously ordered a new flag act and changed the flag's stripes to three colors, similar to the national flags of major powers. He named it the “Tricolor Flag” and assigned meanings to the colors: red represents the blood willingly sacrificed to protect the nation and religion; white signifies the purity of religion; and blue represents the monarchy’s personal color.
