Minister Suriya has ordered the Department of Livestock Development to urgently assist livestock farmers affected by flooding, revealing that since early September, over 380,000 animals have been evacuated. The department is also providing food and animal health care while accelerating damage assessments to offer aid following established criteria.
On 28 September 2026, Captain Phatdarasmit Thongsaluaykorn, deputy spokesperson for the Office of the Prime Minister, disclosed that Mr. Suriya Jungrungreangkit, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, instructed the Department of Livestock Development to swiftly assist livestock farmers impacted by ongoing floods since early September. The focus is on urgent aid, including evacuating animals from risky areas, supplying feed, caring for animal health, and promptly assessing damage to ensure rapid and comprehensive support for farmers.
Initially, the situation affects 10 provinces: Chainat, Saraburi, Prachinburi, Rayong, Sa Kaeo, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Ubon Ratchathani, Mae Hong Son, and Uthai Thani, covering 20 districts, 44 subdistricts, and 84 villages. Some 2,313 farmers are affected, with over 715,000 livestock in flooded areas. The Department of Livestock Development has evacuated 381,131 animals from risky zones, distributed 22,000 kilograms of royal-granted animal feed, supported 6,519 animal health promotion kits, provided animal survival kits, and deployed mobile veterinary units to care for animals on-site.
Most recently, the Department of Livestock Development integrated forces with local agencies to actively assist animals amid flooding. On 27 September 2026, the Sa Kaeo Provincial Livestock Office, together with the Khao Chakan District Livestock Office and the 19th Military Circle, visited Moo 2, Ban Khok Khao Niao, Nong Wa Subdistrict, Khao Chakan District. After a farmer's farm was flooded about 1 meter deep, making vehicle access impossible, officials used boats to carefully evacuate 650 pigs from the danger zone, successfully relocating them to safety.
Meanwhile, in Chachoengsao Province, the provincial Livestock Office collaborated with the Tha Takiap District Livestock Office, Khlong Takhrao Subdistrict Administrative Organization, and community leaders to assist farmers. Fifty-three cattle stranded on a river island in Khlong Takhrao Subdistrict, Tha Takiap District, were safely relocated from the water. Officials also provided veterinary supplies and advised farmers on animal health care.
Preliminary damage assessments found 20,024 animals dead or missing in Rayong and Mae Hong Son provinces, comprising one cow, one buffalo, and 20,022 poultry. The Department of Livestock Development is expediting verification and data collection to proceed with aid evaluations per established criteria.
Regarding compensation, the Department of Livestock Development will act according to the Ministry of Finance's regulations on agricultural disaster emergency assistance 2026. This includes cases of animal deaths or losses, with aid rates based on animal type and age, and maximum amounts per recipient. Compensation also covers grazing land damage that cannot be restored, with assistance set at 3,180 baht per rai, up to 30 rai per recipient. Aid will follow official procedures and guidelines.
“The government and Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives are expediting care for both farmers and animals affected by flooding. The Department of Livestock Development is mobilizing alongside the military, local administrative organizations, and regional agencies to urgently rescue animals from risk areas, whether by wading into flooded zones, using boats for evacuation, or assisting trapped animals. Damage surveys continue to ensure farmers receive aid promptly per established criteria,” the statement said.
Livestock farmers affected by flooding can request animal feed supplies or livestock assistance at provincial and district livestock offices or local animal feed research and development centers.
