Aekniti Orders Financial Institutions to Suspend Debt Burdens and Inject Liquidity OIC Speeds Up Claims for Flood-Damaged Homes and Vehicles

The government is accelerating aid for flood victims. "Aekniti" has ordered state financial institutions to suspend debt burdens and inject liquidity, along with recovery funds for after floodwaters recede. Meanwhile, the Office of Insurance Commission (OIC) is speeding up fair and prompt insurance claims for homes and vehicles damaged by flooding.

On 28 September 2026, Ms. Lalida Pertwivattana, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that the government is swiftly implementing financial measures to help citizens and businesses affected by the flooding. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Mr. Aekniti Nitithanprapas, has instructed state financial institutions to provide immediate assistance covering essential expenses during the disaster, reduction of existing debt burdens, liquidity support, as well as funds for home repairs and livelihood restoration after the floodwaters recede.

Ms. Lalida stated that the prepared measures include emergency loans and rehabilitation loans from Government Savings Bank, Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC), and the Small and Medium Enterprise Development Bank of Thailand (SME Bank), as well as housing assistance from the Government Housing Bank (GHB).

At the same time, there are measures to adjust debt repayment conditions from Government Savings Bank, GHB, SME Bank, Islamic Bank of Thailand, and Export-Import Bank of Thailand, along with measures from the Small Industry Credit Guarantee Corporation (SICGC) to alleviate borrowers' burdens. Each institution has been instructed to promptly inform clients in affected areas about assistance criteria and contact channels clearly so that citizens and businesses can access help swiftly.

Regarding insurance, the Office of Insurance Commission (OIC) and the insurance sector have accelerated assistance for citizens whose homes and vehicles were damaged by flooding. They advise victims to check their coverage under policies via LINE @OICCONNECT, collect complete evidence of damage, report incidents as soon as possible, and prepare all necessary documents to claim compensation.

Additionally, the OIC will consult with non-life insurance companies to establish further support measures, including data collection through the central insurance database, preparation of tow trucks and vehicle lifts in cooperation with Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, setting timelines for prompt and fair compensation payments, considering easing insurance premium payments, and extending licenses for insurance agents or brokers. Citizens can seek further information via the OIC hotline at 1186.

Mr. Aekniti said that the most important priority now is public safety, while the Ministry of Finance's role is to reduce worries over debt burdens and ensure that those affected receive rapid and fair protection. The ministry is also preparing funds for recovery after the floodwaters recede, enabling people to repair homes, vehicles, reopen shops, and resume livelihoods quickly.

“Right now, public safety must come first. The Ministry of Finance's duty is to prevent those coping with floods from worrying about increasing debt and to ensure they receive swift and fair protection. After the floodwaters recede, there must be sufficient funds to repair homes, vehicles, reopen shops, and return to work,” Mr. Aekniti stated.

Ms. Lalida concluded that the Ministry of Finance will closely monitor assistance efforts by state financial institutions and related agencies to ensure that various measures reach affected citizens and businesses as quickly as possible.
