“Pradorn” announced full preparations to support Bangkok flood victims, applying the same standards nationwide. A mid-2026 budget of 2 billion baht has been allocated to assist victims, while disaster insurance coverage will continue after 1 October.
At 1:00 p.m. on 28 September 2026 at the Government House, Mr. Pradorn Prissanantakul, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office, disclosed after a meeting of the Central Region Flood and Drought Prevention and Mitigation Committee, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Mr. Akniti Nitithanprapas, that regarding compensation criteria for Bangkok residents, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has regulations for compensating the public. The government has discussed with the BMA on how to allocate funds in detail and affirmed that all sectors are committed to fully supporting the people.
When asked whether Bangkok residents would receive 9,000 baht per household in compensation, matching the standard of other provinces previously affected by floods, Mr. Pradorn responded that they have the right to receive this because the same criteria must be used nationwide. It depends on how the BMA sets its criteria and its budget, and the government is ready to support any additional needs. The government has prepared a mid-2026 contingency budget of about 2 billion baht to cover flood situations nationwide, including Bangkok, from 20 September onward. The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) will report flood incidents since 20 September and submit requests to the Cabinet for resolutions as needed.
Mr. Pradorn stated that from 1 October onward, responsibility will shift to the Office of Insurance Commission (OIC), which has already implemented contracts under the National Catastrophe Insurance program. Any disasters, such as floods occurring after 1 October 2026, will be covered by insurance, while incidents before that date remain the government's responsibility.
When asked about relief measures for vehicles in Bangkok damaged by floods, Mr. Pradorn said this matter requires discussion. It will be addressed in the Cabinet meeting on 29 September, with all relevant agencies preparing their plans. Cabinet approval will be sought to announce assistance measures for the public.
