The Minister of Tourism and Sports praised Thai athletes for their victories at the Asian Games, having won 11 medals so far, which help uplift the spirits of Thai people amid the flood crisis. He also assured that bonus payments will reach the athletes within 7 days and said he will discuss with the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) to assist athletes who have lost property due to the floods.
At 09:45 on 29 Sep 2026 GMT+7 at the Government House, Mr. Surasak Phanjaroenworakul, Minister of Tourism and Sports, spoke about Thai athletes competing in the Asian Games in Japan. He expressed gratitude to all Thai national athletes for bringing happiness and emotional healing to the Thai people during a time when the country and its citizens face severe hardships from the flooding.
Although people are struggling with daily life due to the floods, the athletes’ achievements represent a great source of joy for the Thai people at this time. He also sent his concern and encouragement to the athletes currently competing to perform their best.
Regarding the medal target at the Asian Games, the Minister of Tourism and Sports revealed that the Thai contingent has so far won 11 gold medals, nearing their goal of 15 golds. He praised the performances in several sports, including “Nong Bew” a Thai national runner who has performed excellently and brought happiness to the Thai people.
“I confirm that within 7 days after the Asian Games conclude, prize money—including gold, silver, bronze medals, and appreciation bonuses—will definitely be paid to all athletes.”
When asked about measures to assist athletes who competed for the country but suffered damage to their homes and property from the floods, Mr. Surasak said he plans to discuss with the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), through various sports associations, to quickly survey the names of affected athletes. They will consider providing initial assistance and support, since these athletes have sacrificed for the nation and were unable to return to take care of their property.
