On 29 September 2026, Second Lieutenant Phatdarasmi Thongsaluaykon, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, announced that the Cabinet approved four rental housing projects for low-income earners in 2024. The projects, totaling 596 units in Sakon Nakhon, Phuket, Loei, and Narathiwat, have a combined investment of 439.225 million baht. The aim is to expand housing options so low-income citizens can access quality homes at reasonable prices without the burden of purchasing their own property.
The projects include 146 units in Sakon Nakhon, 44 in Phuket, 75 in Loei, and 331 in Narathiwat. They target low-income groups, including the elderly, civil servants, government employees, and new workers with limited incomes seeking housing with affordable costs aligned to their financial capacity.
A key focus for prospective tenants is the rent, set at approximately 2,000 to 3,200 baht per month to suit the target groups. At the same time, the projects emphasize not only increasing the number of rental homes but also improving the quality of life for residents.
The buildings and common areas will be designed following Universal Design principles to ensure accessibility and safety for people of all ages, especially the elderly and disabled. Environmental-friendly design will also be considered to make the rental homes suitable for long-term living.
The projects will use government land and National Housing Authority properties equipped with necessary infrastructure and utilities. This ensures residents can conveniently access basic services and facilities. Construction is expected to begin in fiscal year 2025 and complete by fiscal year 2027.
Regarding the budget, the government plans to optimize funds by having the National Housing Authority use the remaining 314.340 million baht from the Baan Ua-Arthorn project for initial operations. Additional budget plans and expenditure proposals will be prepared for annual budget requests. Construction costs will be controlled to remain economical and reasonable.
The Deputy Spokesperson said the projects will reduce housing expenses and enhance life stability for target groups, especially low-income earners and new workers. The Universal Design-based layouts will also enable the elderly and disabled to live more comfortably and safely.
Therefore, these four projects are not just about increasing the number of rental homes, but about expanding access to quality housing at affordable prices, developing living environments suitable for all ages, and fostering quality communities in the areas.
