Two former Democrat Party Prime Ministers, Abhisit Vejjajiva and Chuan Leekpai, led party members to visit and distribute relief bags to flood victims in Bang Kapi. They boosted morale to help residents overcome the crisis. In the afternoon, they waded through floodwaters into deep alleys to deliver relief bags in the Happy Land area. Locals said they were the first group to provide on-site assistance.
On 29 Sep 2026, Abhisit Vejjajiva, leader of the Democrat Party, accompanied by Chuan Leekpai, party-list MP and former Prime Minister, along with Satit Wongnongtoey, Korn Chatikavanij, Kadee Liao Phairoj, Chaiyanachai Detdecho, Deputy Party Leader, Anucha Burapachaisri, former Bangkok gubernatorial candidate, former MPs, and party staff visited the temporary shelter at Bangkok College of Handicrafts in Bang Kapi District. They offered encouragement to flood-affected residents and distributed relief bags from the M.R. Seni Pramoj Foundation to aid flood victims. The shelter housed about 500 evacuees. Democrat Party executives spoke with residents to provide support and boost morale to help them get through this flood crisis together.
"Currently, many Bangkok residents are still living with floodwaters in their homes. We want to affirm that fellow Thai citizens, including the public, students, and volunteers, are united in solidarity. Everyone has come to help in various ways. Today, Democrat Party members brought aid from the M.R. Seni Pramoj Foundation as initial relief. In the future, the party is ready and willing to continue serving by coordinating various matters," said Abhisit.
Deputy Democrat Party Leader Chaiyanachai Detdecho said the overall situation for flood victims at Klong Chan flats and Romklao housing remains difficult. The Democrat Party has divided leaders and MPs to distribute aid across various locations, including provinces. They noted that many areas in Central and Northern Thailand are beginning to experience rising floodwaters, from Chiang Mai down to Nakhon Sawan, Prachinburi, and Nakhon Nayok. He extended support to all flood-affected residents and assured that the party will try to provide as much assistance as possible. He also apologized to flood victims in some areas where aid has not yet reached but assured, "We will not abandon anyone."
At 3:00 p.m., the group led by Abhisit and Chuan, along with Democrat Party executives, proceeded to Soi Ladprao 101 in the Happy Land area and Sindhorn Village. These are deep alleys with difficult access because floodwaters remain high and vehicles cannot pass. They had to adjust plans by using high-clearance pickup trucks to transport relief bags to distribute to flood victims at the end of the alley. However, transport capacity was limited. Abhisit apologized to flood victims for not being able to bring more relief bags.
Flood-affected residents expressed happiness and crowded to take photos with Abhisit and Chuan, both former Democrat Party Prime Ministers. Some said the Democrat Party was the first group to reach the inner part of the alley, where no assistance had arrived for several days since the flood began. Even without having eaten, seeing their faces brought relief. The party’s distribution of relief bags containing drinking water and canned food helped ease immediate hardship and boosted spirits by showing that people still care and are looking out for them.
