Deputy Interior Minister Worasit mobilized high-powered pumps to resolve the flood crisis at Khlong Chan Flats, ordering drilling of the road median to accelerate drainage into the Khlong Saen Saeb Canal. Operations began immediately with continuous 24-hour monitoring until conditions normalize.
On 30 September 2026, reporters reported that at 11:00 p.m. on 29 September, Deputy Interior Minister Worasit Liangprasert ordered urgent measures to address flooding and water stagnation in the critical area of Khlong Chan Flats, Bang Kapi district. He mobilized all resources and supported high-powered pumps to quickly drain water from Khlong Chan Flats into the Khlong Saen Saeb Canal to alleviate hardships for local residents. Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt, Deputy Governor Dr. Wisanu Subsompon, and Ministry of Interior Inspector Supattra Klaithim joined the site visit to assess the situation and make joint decisions.
Worasit stated that after assessing the flooding at Khlong Chan Flats, the accumulated water volume was high and required powerful equipment to expedite drainage. He took a leading role coordinating with Bangkok authorities and capable private partners from Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province to bring in high-performance pumps to support government agencies. This represents an integrated cooperation between the public and private sectors to promptly assist citizens during the crisis.
Regarding the operational plan, Worasit explained that initially, pumping would start at the front of the Khlong Chan housing estate. He ordered and coordinated with relevant parties to expedite opening a water channel by drilling the road surface at the median strip to create a passage for pump pipes and allow water to flow rapidly into the Khlong Saen Saeb Canal. This method greatly enhances the efficiency of draining floodwaters from the community area.
"Addressing the hardships of our citizens cannot be delayed. Therefore, I emphasized that all teams begin installing equipment and start pumping operations immediately from the night of 29 September onward. Technicians, officials, local administrators, and private partners work together installing high-powered pumps and drilling the road to open water channels throughout the night to accelerate water removal from Khlong Chan Flats and the housing community as quickly as possible," Worasit said.
Worasit added that by 11:15 p.m., water levels on the road surface at the NIDA intersection had begun to recede slightly. The next step is to push the large volume of floodwater from residential areas to flow into the Khlong Saen Saeb Canal. Proactive coordination will bring all sectors together to resolve the issue rapidly. Tonight’s operation will be closely monitored and evaluated 24 hours a day, with officials ensuring safety, managing traffic, and providing full assistance to residents during the work. "We expect that after installing the pumps tonight, water levels will continuously decrease and show clear improvement within three days. Our team will continue operations until the situation returns to normal," he concluded.
