Bangkok is accelerating garbage collection efforts in the area while requesting support with small flat-bottom boats to enhance the efficiency of aid delivery and waste transport in flooded zones.
On 30 Sep 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Pornprom Na S., deputy governor of Bangkok, spoke about waste collection efforts, especially in areas still flooded. He said Bangkok is continuously collecting garbage in various locations, but some areas remain heavily flooded, making waste collection difficult. For example, in Lat Krabang District, water levels are still between 1 and 1.20 meters, causing scattered floating trash around shelters and their surroundings. To address this, the Environment Department mobilized about 100 water waste collection experts from the Chao Phraya River to assess on-site whether boats from the river could be used for garbage collection in Lat Krabang. These river boats are large, measuring 2 by 8 meters, with a draft of about 1 meter. The Mechanical Workshop Division and the Public Works Department will test these boats, and if effective, more boats will be deployed. However, each boat weighs about 1.5 tons; considering the added weight of garbage, the feasibility of operations needs evaluation.
Currently, the greatest need is for small flat-bottom boats to facilitate operations, enabling faster delivery of aid and supplies to residents as well as more efficient garbage removal from flooded areas. Therefore, Bangkok welcomes support from anyone who can provide small flat-bottom boats. Additionally, donations of equipment for frontline workers wading through water—such as toilet cleaners, detergents, floor cleaners, large opaque garbage bags (36 x 45 inches), waterproof overalls, and long boots extending above the knees—would help improve worker safety.
Bangkok requests the public to securely tie garbage bags when disposing of waste in large bags to prevent scattering and ease collection by workers. Residents can also consolidate community waste and report disposal locations via the Traffy Fondue system to facilitate faster and more efficient waste collection.
