On 30 Sep 2026, during a parliamentary session, Saksit Khaothong, Democrat MP from Songkhla province, spoke on an urgent motion about flood disaster management. He began by expressing condolences to families who lost loved ones and offered support to all flood victims nationwide. He stated that this flooding crisis was not merely a natural disaster but also a failure and mistake by the government, describing it as a 'failure plus.'
Saksit identified three main government failures in responding to the floods:
1. Failure of early warnings: lack of clear communication and evacuation instructions left people unprepared.
2. Delayed assistance to vulnerable groups: bedridden patients and young children faced hardship as government resources could not reach affected areas due to poor coordination with local community leaders.
3. Mismanagement of survival kits and food supplies: distribution was difficult; in some areas, volunteers cooked meals early in the morning but had to wait for the Prime Minister's team to arrive, causing the food to spoil before reaching victims.
Saksit further criticized that "learning lessons" from past floods in Hat Yai and Nan remains mere rhetoric with no real improvements. He questioned responsible agencies—the Office of the National Water Resources (ONWR), the Department of Water Resources, and the National Water Command Center—which often claim control but fail to be present during crises. He also criticized the Meteorological Department for focusing mainly on requesting budgets of 400–500 million baht for fixes instead of effective action.
Additionally, Saksit expressed concern over impacts on agriculture, citing longan farmers in Chanthaburi and Rayong provinces suffering from price drops and crop rot on trees. He urged the government to quickly approve relief measures, debt moratoriums, and low-interest (soft loan) programs to restore the economy. He warned the Prime Minister, coming from the business sector, that delayed economic recovery would cause severe damage, as seen with the prolonged wait for flood relief payments in Hat Yai.
Saksit also conveyed local people's sentiments that the government's campaign slogan "Get Rich Overflowing" has turned into "Unbearable Misfortune" for citizens. He left a final thought for the administration: "Do not hold positions beyond your capability, and do not wield power beyond your wisdom." He warned that if the government continues mismanaging, September will become "Ruinous September," October "Crumbling October," November "Drowning," and December will end as "Poor, Poor, Poor Plus."
