On 30 Sep 2026 GMT+7, during a parliamentary session on urgent motions to resolve flood issues and disaster response, Ms. Narumas Piambandit, MP for Chonburi District 6 from the People's Party, spoke about flooding in the eastern region. She praised the proactive work of Sriracha Municipality in clearing drainage pipes, which helped reduce damage, but noted that after the water receded, residents still faced hardships with infrastructure and vulnerable groups.
Ms. Narumas questioned the failure of the government warning system, stating that people did not receive prior alert messages (Cell Broadcast) on their mobile phones. She also revealed blind spots where the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation could not contact local officials during the night, coinciding with heavy rainfall. She called on the government to urgently send assistance to Chachoengsao province, which has been flooded for six days and already has four reported deaths.
At the end, the People's Party MP expressed serious concern about electronic waste and toxic industrial residue illegally dumped in the eastern region, now being spread by floodwaters. Dangerous chemicals such as lead, mercury, and cadmium are contaminating rivers, canals, agricultural lands, and homes. She urged the government to promptly explain their measures to respond to and inspect contamination of soil and water by these toxins.
