Launch of Floating Rescue Raft to Aid Lat Krabang Flood Victims, Supports 3-Ton Load

Yotsanan tested the "Floating Rescue Raft" capable of carrying 3,000 kg, using a silent, wave-free electric boat to tow and distribute relief bags to residents at Hua Takhe Market.

On 1 Oct 2026 GMT+7, Yotsanan Wongsawat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, visited King Mongkut's Lat Krabang Pier to monitor flood conditions and participate in testing the “Floating Rescue Raft” innovation. This modular raft, developed jointly by the Ministry of Higher Education, King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL), and SCGC (Siam Cement Group Chemicals Public Company Limited), repurposes floating pontoons from the SCGC Floating Solar Solutions project. It measures 47 square meters and can carry up to about 3,000 kg. Its key features include durability, low friction, and shallow draft, making it highly suitable for shallow water navigation.

During the visit, Yotsanan rode the rescue raft along the Prawet Buri Rom Canal, delivering food, drinking water, relief bags, and medicines to flood victims at Hua Takhe Market. The operation used an electric boat from TTA Group to tow the raft, notable for its silent operation and lack of wave disturbance to riverside homes. Professor Dr. Yotsanan stated that this rescue raft truly addresses the needs of public assistance. In the future, it can be converted into a floating platform for collecting waterborne trash. The Ministry plans to coordinate its delivery to Bangkok for further use. He also visited the Disaster and Safety Management Center at KMITL’s main auditorium, which serves as a temporary shelter accommodating thousands of people and pets, and includes a royal kitchen, to hear concerns and offer support to affected residents.
