Chayachonok Still Unsatisfied with Meteorological Departments Weather Forecast Communication

Chayachonok said he remains unsatisfied, despite the Meteorological Department's new weather forecast communication method. He urged that the public be continuously informed even when the chance of occurrence is 60%, so they are aware in advance.

On 1 Oct 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Chayachonok Chidchob, Minister of Digital Economy and Society, revealed that after instructing the Meteorological Department to improve weather forecast communication using simple language, some improvements have been made. However, he remains unsatisfied because some information still uses difficult language. The Meteorological Department has said it will continuously improve by employing artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance accuracy.

"I want information communicated continuously to the public. Even if the chance of occurrence is only 60%, the public should be informed, without waiting for 90%. This provides information for the public to be aware beforehand, to help their decisions and preparedness."

Regarding the weather intelligence and forecast platform from tomorrow.io, no procurement has occurred yet because there is only one private company involved. This requires careful, transparent, and cost-effective consideration to avoid criticism since it is an annual contract. Therefore, the Meteorological Department is still testing and trialing deep analytical weather forecasts.

"During the trial with tomorrow.io, the processing and analysis of weather forecasts have become more effective and accurate, with nearly real-time reporting. Currently, the Meteorological Department collaborates with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation on the 'One Map' project to integrate weather forecast data for maximum accuracy."
