Bangkok Metropolitan Administration joins forces with the military to quickly assist residents by establishing joint district-level disaster relief centers, emphasizing community access and rapid area rehabilitation.
On 1 Oct 2026 GMT+7, Governor Chadchart Sittipunt of Bangkok, accompanied by BMA executives, welcomed Lieutenant General Adul Boonthamcharoen, Minister of Defence, who chaired a meeting to monitor flood conditions and discuss integrated aid strategies at the Bangkok Flood Prevention Control Center, Department of Drainage and Sewerage, Bangkok City Hall 2, Din Daeng. The aim was to align direction and coordination between BMA, Ministry of Defence, the armed forces, and relevant agencies to ensure prompt, efficient responses tailored to each area’s needs.
Bangkok presented an overview of its water control and management system, covering water flow, canals, floodgates, pumping stations, and monitoring zones to provide all agencies with a unified “whole-system water” perspective. This facilitates coordinated data sharing to identify urgent areas and allocate resources precisely.
At this meeting, the Defence Minister proposed establishing “district-level disaster relief centers” across all 50 Bangkok districts. These centers would serve as the main coordination mechanism among district offices, BMA, the military, and various sectors—handling incident reports, citizen needs, and requests for personnel or equipment. The focus is on unified operations to reduce duplication and deliver aid swiftly to residents. The military confirmed readiness to support with personnel, vehicles, boats, water pumps, and specialized equipment to supplement BMA and local area capabilities.
The Bangkok Governor expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Defence and the armed forces for their ongoing support, stating, “I feel reassured by the military’s comprehensive assistance,” which will strengthen BMA’s capacity to manage the situation and care for residents, especially in heavily affected areas requiring urgent relief and rehabilitation.
The meeting also emphasized appointing military representatives in each district to maintain continuous coordination, minimize operational gaps, and prepare both urgent relief plans and recovery strategies for the post-flood phase.
Following the meeting, BMA executives and the Defence Minister visited Laemthong Athlete Village on Krungthep Kreetha Road in Saphan Sung district to monitor flood conditions and meet residents. They listened directly to local problems and needs to adjust support plans and coordinate joint efforts until normal conditions are restored.
Representatives from the Internal Security Operations Command, Ministry of Defence, and related agencies joined the meeting via Video Teleconference (VTC) with directors from all 50 districts, military commanders, and General Natthapong Praekaeo, Chief of Staff, to share updates on situations, challenges, and support requirements from each area. This ensured a unified information base to work cohesively and deliver targeted assistance to citizens.
