Sudarat Asks Governor Chatchat to Explain Which Projects Can Store More Water Than the Six Monkey Cheek Reservoirs

Sudarat requests Governor Chatchat to explain which projects will replace the six monkey cheek reservoirs if they are not built, and whether any alternative can match or surpass the effectiveness of these six reservoirs, which can store 5-6 million cubic meters of water.

On 2 Oct 2026 GMT+7, Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan, leader of the Thai Sang Thai Party, posted on Facebook questioning Governor Chatchat Sitthiphan of Bangkok regarding the "disappearance of monkey cheek reservoirs." She said the governor must clearly explain that if the monkey cheek projects are not implemented, what alternative projects will be put in place that can effectively store and hold 5-6 million cubic meters of water, since Bangkok's eastern area faces annual flooding.

She encouraged the governor to have the courage to revise Bangkok's new urban plan currently underway to solve long-term flooding problems for Bangkok residents. Areas designated as monkey cheeks or floodways must strictly prohibit construction of housing estates or commercial buildings without exception. Since the new urban plan is now in the public consultation phase, it is a golden opportunity for Governor Chatchat to boldly address urban planning issues to help Bangkok people overcome long-term flooding.

Khunying Sudarat also expressed gratitude to Mr. Attawit Suwanpakdee for revealing that the 130-rai Khu Bon water retention pond is missing from the new draft of Bangkok's urban planning law.
