Phiphat Confident Thai Airways Will Fully Resume Services by 3 Oct

The Ministry of Transport has partnered with Thai Airways to accelerate resolving issues of delayed baggage and cargo. Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Phiphat affirmed that the situation is beginning to ease and is confident that by 3 October, full service will be restored.

On 2 Oct 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, disclosed progress on resolving the backlog of baggage and cargo at Thai Airways Public Company Limited following urgent discussions with executives and related agencies. He confirmed that the situation is continuously improving and the airline is ready to fully resume normal operations by 3 October.

As an urgent measure for baggage and cargo management, Thai Airways has collaborated with Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT) and Bangkok Flight Services Company Limited (BFS) to provide approximately 4,000 additional square meters of storage space (in Area 4 and BFS premises) to systematically expedite clearing cargo and baggage. Additionally, AOT has upgraded an integrated data system to allow Customs Department, airlines, and cargo agents to access and share accurate, real-time information.

Regarding passenger baggage, the airline has sorted and moved luggage to secure storage areas and deployed 24 additional call center lines to directly coordinate with passengers. Furthermore, they have partnered with leading global private couriers FedEx and DHL to enhance home delivery services beyond the existing Thai Post system. It is expected that all baggage deliveries will be completed within two days, with passengers able to request baggage receipt directly through Thai Airways.

In terms of flight operations, the airline has begun reducing the proportion of canceled flights. It is expected that outbound flights will operate at no less than 80% capacity, with a gradual ramp-up to full service by 3 October 2026.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn stated, “The Ministry of Transport has closely monitored and supported Thai Airways continuously. We have received support from 123 personnel from the Air Force to assist in moving delayed baggage and accelerating cargo handling. I thank the Thai Airways staff, the Air Force, AOT, BFS, and all involved personnel for their cooperation. I assure the public that Thai Airways will fully resume normal services by 3 October without fail.”
