The government revealed that Bangkok is accelerating water drainage to prepare for rains on 5-6 and 10-11 October, setting up additional water pumps at vulnerable spots. Meanwhile, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DPM) expects to transfer flood relief payments within this week, with over one million households registered through the “Thang Rat” app.
At 10:00 a.m. on 5 October 2026, at the Government News Center, Naree Samosorn Building, Government House, Ms. Lalida Perdwittana, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, stated after the Joint Information and Communication Center (JICC) press briefing on flood situation that currently in Bangkok the main route still heavily flooded is Chalong Krung Road, and the public is advised to avoid using this route.
In the Romklao Housing Community, Bangkok has already drained 30-70 centimeters of water and aims to increase drainage by about 25 centimeters per day. In Min Buri, additional water gates have been opened to push water into Khlong Saen Saeb canal. In Sai Mai and O Ngoen communities, pumps have been brought in from areas where the situation has eased, and boats are used to push water out. It is expected that these areas will be dry within two days. Bangkok authorities will provide further details on the situation and operations.
Mr. Prinya Chantakup, Director of Water Quality Management, Drainage Department of Bangkok, said the Chao Phraya River’s water level is expected to peak at 1.72 meters, about 1.28 meters below Bangkok’s flood barriers. Bangkok has prepared measures for heavy rains forecast on 5-6 and 10-11 October 2026 by speeding up drainage in main canals to improve rainwater handling and deploying mobile pumps to areas at risk of flooding, such as Sai Mai, Lat Krabang, Khlong Sam Wa, and Saphan Sung districts.
For areas where floodwaters have receded, Bangkok continues to collect remaining and floating debris, having removed over 1,400 tons of large waste so far.
Meanwhile, over 40,000 flood victims have registered online through the website claim.bangkok.go.th. Those eligible for assistance include support for living expenses, home repairs, and essential living equipment. The districts with the highest number of registrants are Lat Krabang, Sai Mai, and Bang Kapi.
Dr. Sirithorn Somsuwan, Director of Public Relations at the DPM, provided information on flood victim assistance and relief, explaining that aid is divided into two parts: the first is emergency government advance funds to help disaster victims; Bangkok and affected provinces have been surveying and gradually disbursing payments to people.
The second part is assistance per Cabinet resolution for flood victims. For cases where homes are flooded for no more than seven days and property is damaged, households receive 9,000 baht. For flooding lasting seven days or more, households also receive 9,000 baht. For homes and high-rise buildings surrounded by floodwaters for seven days or more, households receive 5,000 baht.
The DPM has coordinated with Bangkok and 65 affected provinces to expedite data collection and verification. Upon receiving data, the DPM will verify it within two days, then forward it to the Government Savings Bank for review and payment within three business days, aiming to complete disbursements within this week. The DPM urges areas to promptly survey and confirm data.
Regarding data confirmation via the “Thang Rat” app, as of 7:00 a.m. today, a total of 1,056,361 households have registered for assistance, including 458,987 households in Bangkok, 149,194 in Samut Prakan, 130,010 in Pathum Thani, 42,531 in Chachoengsao, and 36,016 in Rayong.
If users receive a message that they are not in an affected area after entering data in the “Thang Rat” app, they should check their information before confirming, especially the disaster location. If the selected area or district is incorrect, confirmation cannot proceed. Users can review and edit information in the “My Requests” menu under data correction, and should ensure the disaster date matches the actual event and conditions to ensure accurate eligibility verification.
The DPM has also instructed and coordinated with local administrative organizations, Bangkok authorities, and provinces to publicize and clarify to the public the types of assistance and entitlements, ensuring people understand clearly and can submit claims easily.
