The Department of Internal Trade is accelerating solutions to the shortage of vegetables and eggs following floods, fixing the price of eggs at 4 baht. A special inspection team has been dispatched to rigorously monitor product prices in affected areas. If exploitation is found, complaints can be made through hotline 1569.
On 6 Oct 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Jirawut Suwanart, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Internal Trade, revealed that due to the current flooding situation, the department is overseeing fair pricing of goods and services. Some vegetable cultivation areas, especially in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Nakhon Pathom, and Chachoengsao provinces, have been damaged, causing a significant market shortage. The Ministry of Commerce is coordinating with fresh markets, central markets, wholesale and retail markets to bring vegetables from unaffected areas such as Phetchabun and parts of Nakhon Ratchasima to markets in Bangkok and nearby regions. This distribution to retail shops and modern trade outlets has helped ease vegetable prices. Efforts will continue through the upcoming Vegetarian Festival at the end of this week to restore vegetable prices to normal quickly.
Mr. Jirawut stated that regarding eggs, particularly from farms in Chachoengsao province which lost about 3 million eggs, this has greatly affected the egg supply. The Department of Internal Trade has sped up surveying unaffected areas to link supply to distribution centers in various malls, alongside the Department of Livestock Development's efforts to extend the productive lifespan of cage hens from 80 to 85 weeks, allowing more eggs to replenish the supply. The lifespan of breeder hens has also been extended from 72 to 75 weeks. It is expected that the egg supply will recover by the end of this month at the latest. Furthermore, the department has requested exporters to postpone egg exports until December.
Mr. Jirawut added that the Department of Internal Trade has invited the Egg Producers Association and large farms to cooperate in fixing the farm-gate price of eggs at 4 baht. Retailers are also urged to help channel products from unaffected production areas directly to regions facing shortages. Additionally, a special inspection team will be deployed to closely monitor product prices to prevent price exploitation. Any cases of unfair practices can be reported via hotline 1569.
Mr. Jirawut also discussed post-flood relief measures, stating that discounted "Thong Fah" shops will be set up. In Bangkok, these will operate from 9 to 18 October 2026 GMT+7. In other provinces, 12 discounted Thong Fah shops per province will be organized nationwide to help reduce living costs, starting from 16 October. Locations of these shops will be announced on the Department of Internal Trade's website and communicated through the Government Public Relations Department and the Prime Minister’s Office's spokesperson.
