Sanphet Vows to Tackle Southern Floods Government to Do Its Best to Avoid Past Mistakes, Orders Ministers to Visit Affected Areas

Sanphet vows to tackle flooding in the southern region, asserting the government will do its best to avoid repeating past mistakes. Ministers have been ordered to visit affected areas. A meeting with the 14 southern provincial governors is scheduled to closely plan flood response.

At 12:00 on 6 Oct 2026 at the Government House, Sanphet Boonyamanee, Deputy Minister of Transport and member of the committee for flood and drought prevention in the south, spoke about preparations for upcoming rains. Following the Prime Minister's directives, involved ministers including Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and committee chairman, and Worasil Liangprasit, Deputy Minister of Interior, will hold a meeting this evening (6 Oct) with governors of the 14 southern provinces to plan for potential floods expected at year-end. Heavy rain is forecast, especially in the four southern border provinces which require close monitoring due to risks of landslides and flash floods if rain accumulates for 2-3 days. The meeting aims to integrate efforts across government and local agencies to ensure coordinated response. Plans include water drainage, evacuation, equipment and machinery readiness, and shelter preparation should rapid and heavy flooding occur.

Preparations have been made with emphasis on avoiding panic. Efforts will be maximized to prevent incidents similar to the past, with the Prime Minister reiterating orders for ministers to visit affected areas. The Deputy Minister of Transport said.
