"Tankawin's Erratic Claims" entered Parliament to file an ethics complaint against "Attawit" for citing the "Monkey Cheek" Khu Bon project to attack BMA; confronted fiercely by MP team, denied ever claiming it was a royal initiative; chaos broke out and the press was dispersed.
At 10:00 a.m. on 7 Oct 2026 at Parliament, Mr. Tankawin Rattawat Angkun, a researcher in the philosophy of sufficiency economy, submitted an ethics complaint against Mr. Attawit Suwanpakdee, a party-list MP from the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party (RTSC), to the Secretariat of the House of Representatives. He stated that he filed the complaint because Attawit had cited the royal-initiated Monkey Cheek Khu Bon project to criticize Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's (BMA) water management, accusing him of politically exploiting the issue. Tankawin said the claim that BMA cut off floodway areas from the city plan was misleading. Upon checking with the Royal Initiatives Coordination Committee (RICC), it was found that in Bangkok, only the Mahachai and Sanam Chai canals in Bang Khun Thian district have Monkey Cheek projects; there is no such project at Khu Bon as claimed.
Mr. Tankawin Rattawat Angkun, who claims to be a researcher in the philosophy of sufficiency economy, is the same individual previously known for falsely claiming to be part of the legal team representing Mr. Siranat Samut, also known as Sai Scott, an heir of a prominent family who had a public dispute with his mother. Tankawin had presented himself as a lawyer and gave media statements following family mediation talks, earning the nickname "Erratic Claims."
During the media interview, a heated factual dispute arose involving local residents affected by flooding in eastern Bangkok, including Ms. Chawalak Wiangwiset, a community representative advocating for the Khu Bon flood retention project and spokesperson for the Thai Pakdee Party. She acknowledged her political role but emphasized she represents residents of Khlong Sam Wa district who have suffered flooding since 2019. She described flooded homes and businesses in Khlong Khan Nao, Khlong Sam Wa, and areas near Khu Bon retention basin, some unable to operate for nearly two weeks. The flood victims never claimed Khu Bon is a royal-initiated project; rather, it is necessary infrastructure to prevent water from flooding inner Bangkok. She emphasized this is a matter of public interest, not political parties, and welcomed information sharing with any party committed to solving the problem. She questioned whether the Khu Bon basin serves only Khlong Khan Nao and Khlong Sam Wa or also protects inner urban Bangkok, affirming its role as a flood retention area for all Bangkok residents.
Meanwhile, an expert advisor to MP Attawit Suwanpakdee, who was present during the interview, questioned whether Mr. Tankawin's research had ever been published. The advisor firmly denied any ethics violation by Attawit, citing accurate BMA documents and stating that the MP's field visits genuinely aimed to assist residents suffering from flooding. The advisor clarified that Attawit referred to Khu Bon as following royal guidance, not as a royal-initiated project. He questioned whether it was appropriate to file an ethics complaint against an MP or politician helping flood victims. The RTSC party asserted its work is based on evidence, reality, and justice.
This led Mr. Tankawin to attempt rebuttal and request information on the facts and flood impact, but he ceased his press conference and abruptly left the scene by pushing through the crowd of residents to evade the media.
