The government is ready to host the World Bank - IMF meeting and has announced that government offices in Bangkok will work from home for three days, with 16 October declared a special holiday to reduce traffic congestion as over 15,000 participants are expected.
On 8 October 2026, Ms. Ploytale Laksamee Sangchan, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that the government is prepared to host the 2026 Annual Meetings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund from 12 to 18 October 2026 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul emphasizes the importance of hosting this event and has instructed all agencies to ensure smooth organization, using the opportunity to showcase Thailand’s capabilities, enhance economic value, and deliver benefits to the people.
Ms. Ploytale stated that to ensure the meeting runs smoothly, the government has set measures to facilitate travel and security for global dignitaries and to ease traffic congestion in Bangkok. This is to welcome more than 15,000 participants from 190 countries attending the World Bank - IMF Annual Meetings 2026 from 12 to 16 October 2026. The government has announced that Bangkok government agencies will adjust work arrangements as follows.
On 12 October, work from home (WFH); 13 October, public holiday; 14–15 October, WFH; and 16 October, special public holiday. Citizens are advised to plan travel and government-related matters in advance. The private sector and state enterprises will not automatically close but are encouraged to consider suitable work arrangements or follow their own company announcements. Financial institutions and banks in Bangkok will close as a special case. Hospitals, police stations, and essential services will maintain staff on duty as required. The cabinet meeting scheduled during the IMF meeting week will be postponed to Wednesday, 14 October 2026.
"This meeting is not only a key global economic and financial forum but also an opportunity for Thailand to demonstrate its capabilities and readiness in all aspects, building international confidence in Thailand. It will also enhance opportunities in economy, trade, investment, technology, and tourism, generating tangible economic value and benefits for Thai people," Ms. Ploytale said.
