The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior confirmed that the flood relief budget is sufficient to cover payments both before and after 1 October. If funds are insufficient, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) may request additional funding from the Budget Bureau.
On 13 October 2026 at 11:15 a.m. at the Government House, Mr. Atsit Sampantharat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, addressed concerns about whether the flood relief budget is sufficient, as 1.9 million households have applied for assistance. He explained that the matter is divided into two parts: for flood-affected areas before 1 October 2026, relief has been provided promptly, using over 2 billion baht from the 4.2 billion baht emergency budget approved by the Cabinet.
For floods occurring after 1 October 2026, relief will fall under the National Catastrophe Insurance system. If affected by flooding, the Office of Insurance Commission and DDPM will directly transfer funds to households. He stated this should pose no issues and reaffirmed that the Cabinet-approved budget is sufficient, with payments already made to nearly 300,000 recipients.
Currently, DDPM and damage assessment officials are instructed to conduct inspections carefully. If compensation payments are required, they must follow local procedures. Particularly in Bangkok, where floodwater has caused significant hardship, urgent relief efforts are necessary.
Furthermore, if the initial budget proves insufficient, DDPM can submit a proposal to the Budget Bureau for further consideration and approval according to established procedures.
