Ekniti discussed with Jozef Síkela, European Commissioner, expanding Global Gateway cooperation to support flood prevention projects, clean energy, and green finance.
On 16 Oct 2026 GMT+7, Dr. Ekniti Nitithanprapas, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, held bilateral talks with Jozef Síkela, European Commissioner for International Partnerships, to enhance economic and investment cooperation between Thailand and the European Union under the EU's Global Gateway strategy. They emphasized supporting Thailand's infrastructure and sustainable development projects, especially flood prevention in the Chao Phraya basin, as well as energy system development and regional economic connectivity.
Additionally, both parties discussed promoting cooperation in green finance, including developing green bond markets, mobilizing funds for the transition to a low-carbon economy, developing carbon credit markets, and exchanging knowledge on sustainable finance. They also sought to expand cooperation in the ASEAN Power Grid and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) sectors to attract quality investment and enhance Thailand's long-term economic competitiveness.
