Anutin Affirms the Value of Hosting IMF Meeting, Hopes to Propel Thailand’s Growth Exponentially

Anutin emphasized Thailand’s success as host of the major World Bank-IMF meetings, highlighting how it built global confidence and reaffirmed the OECD membership goal to attract income and serve as a springboard to propel Thailand’s exponential growth.

At 17:15 on 16 Oct 2026 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul said the global conference was a key opportunity to showcase Thailand’s full potential across all dimensions to the international community, including its logistics readiness, infrastructure, and economic stability amid global geopolitical situations.

The Prime Minister added that the World Bank and IMF meetings held in Thailand, attended by representatives from 191 countries, concluded successfully without significant complaints or issues. All countries expressed satisfaction and confidence in Thailand’s capabilities. He said this marks an important period for the government to transform this strength into opportunities, income, welfare, and jobs for all Thai people. Regarding bilateral talks and building economic alliances, Anutin revealed he met with various high-level leaders, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkaew, U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh, and the OECD Secretary-General. The OECD chief publicly expressed confidence that Thailand will join the OECD, describing it as a significant "springboard" moment for the country in the global view and a morale boost for all teams involved.

The Prime Minister also spoke about the challenges behind hosting the event, saying Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Anek Laothamatas discussed with him from the very first day in office in the initial cabinet (Noo 1) that hosting was the greatest challenge. At that time, concerns were high because the government held a minority in parliament. However, the outcome proved that when it comes to national interests, cooperation is received from all parties—civil servants, the private sector, involved officials, and all citizens—allowing the event to proceed smoothly.

When asked if hosting the event was worth the investment, Anutin replied that hosting such a major conference is not about calculating profit and loss or breaking even, but about “value.” He explained that the event led to business matching and signing cooperation agreements (MOUs) in Thailand, which help enhance economic credibility and establish a new growth base for the country.

When asked if this aligned with the Thailand Plus model, Anutin answered it is “Exponential,” meaning growth that leaps forward or grows by powers.
