Government Allocates 120 Million Baht to Implement Four Measures Supporting Animal Feed Corn Prices for 2026/27

The government has allocated 120 million baht to advance four measures to support animal feed corn prices for 2026/27, helping farmers manage surplus production, promoting credit for purchase and stockpiling, along with reducing costs and enhancing cultivation efficiency.

On 20 October 2026, Ms. Lalida Pertwittaya, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, announced that the government is proceeding with measures to stabilize animal feed corn prices and promote production for 2026/27. This aims to assist farmers growing animal feed corn by reducing risks from falling prices during times of market oversupply and to improve production efficiency long-term. The Animal Feed Corn Policy and Management Committee (AFP) proposed four projects totaling 120.30 million baht in net disbursement to the Cabinet. Of this, 71.50 million baht is from a fund to help farmers, and 48.80 million baht supports credit via the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC).

Ms. Lalida explained that the first key measure focuses on stabilizing animal feed corn prices during periods when production floods the market. This includes an interest compensation project with a 20 million baht budget, supporting feed corn traders and animal feed producers to maintain sufficient liquidity to purchase from farmers and store the corn for 60–120 days. The project aims to temporarily absorb 200,000 tons of production, compensating interest at 3% per year to ease price pressure during production gluts without directly interfering with market mechanisms.

Additionally, a 51.50 million baht project supports absorbing animal feed corn production by backing purchases from areas with large market output and distributing it quickly to feed corn users across regions. This is managed through the Commodity Organization and related agencies, providing management cost support under specified criteria to reduce product clustering in production areas and increase sales channels for farmers.

Regarding credit measures, the government plans to support a credit project for collecting and adding value to animal feed corn through farmer institutions, with a net budget of 35 million baht via BAAC. The total credit amount is 1 billion baht, targeting collection of 100,000 tons. This enables farmer institutions, groups, and community enterprises to have working capital for purchasing, collecting, and processing feed corn from registered farmers with the Department of Agricultural Extension. The interest rate is 4.50% per year, with the government covering 3.50% and the institutions bearing only 1% annually for up to 12 months.

There is also a project to enhance the efficiency of animal feed corn cultivation, with a net budget of 13.80 million baht. It supports credit for 1,000 targeted farmers, with total credit of 230 million baht or up to 230,000 baht per farmer, repayable within five years. The government compensates BAAC's interest at 3% per year for up to 24 months to allow farmers to invest in production process improvements, adopt appropriate agricultural technology, increase yield per rai, improve feed corn quality, and reduce production costs.

The Deputy Spokesperson added that these four projects continue efforts from the 2025/26 production year. Last year, BAAC supported credit to 12 farmer institutions totaling 447.50 million baht, enabling the purchase of about 96,000 tons—96% of the target. This reflects the important role of farmer institutions in absorbing production and creating market channels for farmers. The Prime Minister has approved the principles of both credit projects, which are now in the process of Cabinet consideration for final approval.

"The government prioritizes comprehensive support for animal feed corn farmers, from managing production surpluses entering the market, increasing liquidity for buyers and farmer institutions, to providing capital for cultivation development. The goal is for farmers to sell their products appropriately, reduce price volatility, maintain competitive production costs, and secure household income, while strengthening the animal feed production chain and the Thai livestock sector in the long term," Ms. Lalida said.
