National Security Secretary Reveals PMs Directive to Monitor Intelligence with Focus on Adapting to Changing Threats

The National Security Secretary revealed that the Prime Minister emphasized the overall intelligence situation without focusing on any particular issue, simply discussing global and regional developments. The goal is to align approaches with evolving threats, confirming there is no impact on national security of the country.

On 21 Oct 2026 at 15:45 at the Government House, Thai Khu Fah Building, General Chaipruk Duangpraphet, Secretary of the National Security Council (NSC), disclosed after meeting with the Prime Minister that the PM instructed intelligence work covering the entire country around Thailand, the Thai-Cambodian border, and the southern region. This joint meeting represents a government emphasis on security work, not focusing on any specific issue but discussing global and regional situations that might affect Thailand's security.

When asked whether any particular global unrest currently requires special attention, General Chaipruk said they are only monitoring the situation. Intelligence units confirm that there might be some economic impact, but no direct impact on security has been found.

Asked if today's discussion on the southern border situation would be part of developing a new strategic plan, General Chaipruk said it is part of it, mostly focusing on short-term analysis and current events. Mid- and long-term plans are handled by other agencies, with ongoing evaluations to refine existing strategies.

When asked if the Prime Minister wants the NSC to have an expanded role beyond southern border security, General Chaipruk said the PM places great importance on security, instructing the NSC to continuously report and monitor operations to improve approaches. It is known that global and regional security threats have changed significantly from the past, so intelligence units must constantly assess and update.

Additionally, General Chaipruk disclosed that on 22 Oct 2026 there will be a meeting of agencies responsible for resolving the southern border situation.
