At a press conference at the parliament, MP Yodchai questioned the government about changing the motorcycle taxi vest color in Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province. The change was from the standard orange to reflective blue, an initiative started by the previous district chief before being transferred. This was intended to upgrade the quality of motorcycle taxi services and promote the tourism image of Pattaya city. However, before the new vests could be used, the district chief was reassigned. The new district chief continued the project but replaced the reflective blue vests with plain blue ones that included a QR Code tag.
The key question about this change is whether the switch to blue has any safety standards or academic justification, or if it simply follows the preferences of the new administration. This has led the public to question the appropriateness, transparency, and whether there are political motives behind the decision. Additionally, each motorcycle taxi vest costs 550 baht, creating a financial burden on drivers who earn daily wages.
MP Yodchai further stated, The issue is not just about what color the vest is changed to, but who sets the policy, who benefits, and who bears the cost of this policy. He called for the relevant agencies to clearly explain the reasons and necessity behind the expenses incurred. He also urged that feedback be sought from those affected to find suitable solutions that consider the hardships of the drivers. Administrative management should not force the public to adapt and spend money according to policies that change with personnel. It is time to move beyond conflict, factionalism, and patronage systems toward governance based on transparency and true accountability to the people.
