Twivong Demands Government Fulfill Flood Relief Promise to Ayutthaya Residents

Twivong demands the right to flood relief for Ayutthaya residents, noting that despite higher and longer flooding, they receive the same flat 9,000 baht compensation, with no sign of the promised 5,000 baht per month opportunity loss payment, which the Blue Government pledged during its election campaign as tiered relief.

On 21 October 2026, Twivong Totwivong, former Ayutthaya MP from the People's Party, posted on Facebook demanding flood relief for Ayutthaya residents, stating that despite higher and longer flooding, compensation is the same. He questioned why Ayutthaya receives a flat 9,000 baht relief with no sign of the 5,000 baht per month opportunity loss payment. It has been one month since residents in Ayutthaya, as well as in Chachoengsao, Prachinburi, and other central provinces, have been submerged, yet they face disparities in relief compared to the standards promised before the Blue Government’s election campaign.

Twivong added that paying a flat rate overlooks actual damage; areas flooded for only a few days receive 9,000 baht, while Ayutthaya residents submerged up to first-floor level for over a month receive the same 9,000 baht. He questioned whether this is fair to those who bore the brunt of the flooding. Furthermore, the government remains silent about the 5,000 baht per month opportunity loss payment that was made last year.

“Before the election, there was a clear promise to pay 'tiered relief,' a term used in campaign leaflets (evidence in comments), to compensate for lost income and missed livelihood opportunities throughout the flooding period. But once in government, this money disappeared from the system, with no mention or budget allocation from central funds. Will they act on these promises?”

Twivong also called on the government to immediately expedite the transfer of the 9,000 baht relief payments to those still pending. Many areas flooded for over a month, such as Ayutthaya, Chachoengsao, and Prachinburi, have not yet received full compensation. He urged assessment and additional central budget allocation to pay the 5,000 baht monthly opportunity loss compensation — also called tiered relief — to areas flooded over 30 days. “I demand the rights that Ayutthaya people deserve be restored.”
