On 23 Oct 2026, reporters stated that at 17:00 on 22 Oct, former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra presided over the royal cremation of Sanit Worapanya, former Senate president, at Wat Saket Ratchaworamahawihan, Bangkok. Present were Nikorn Somkalong, Minister of Social Development and Human Security, Pheu Thai MP for Nakhon Ratchasima, Sermsak Pongpanich, former Minister of Tourism and Sports and Pheu Thai leader, Sudawan Wangsupakitkosol, Pheu Thai party-list MP, Worawong Worapanya, Pheu Thai MP for Lopburi, and Theerarat Samretwanich, Assistant Minister to the Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Leader of Pheu Thai.
Sanit Worapanya’s career included serving as Director-General of the Department of Internal Trade, Director-General of the Department of Insurance, Director-General of the Department of Export Promotion, Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Lopburi senator, and as Thailand’s first elected Senate president. He passed away on 15 Oct 2026 at the age of 87.
