The Prime Minister delivered a speech on United Nations Day, emphasizing adherence to international law and the peaceful resolution of conflicts, while highlighting Thailand's role as a "bridge" for global cooperation toward peace and sustainable development.
At 07:30 on 24 Oct 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Ekaphop Pianpiset, spokesperson for the Office of the Prime Minister, revealed that Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul delivered a speech on United Nations Day 2026 via the National Broadcasting Services of Thailand. He stressed the significance of United Nations Day, observed annually on 24 October, commemorating the founding of the United Nations after World War II. The UN was established with the purpose of maintaining peace, preventing another large-scale war, and encouraging the global community to resolve conflicts peacefully, leading to the UN Charter which came into force on 24 Oct 1945, 81 years ago.
Since then, international cooperation has evolved to establish global standards in many areas, including the protection of human rights, children's and women's rights, labor rights, maritime law, as well as collaboration on the environment, education, culture, and sustainable development. Although these rules have not led all countries to unanimous agreement, they form a fundamental basis for coexistence, providing nations a platform for negotiation and dialogue to resolve issues together. This is especially crucial today as the world faces new challenges such as geopolitical conflicts, climate change, and advances in technology and artificial intelligence, all testing the resilience of the global order.
The Prime Minister emphasized that Thailand is committed to respecting the sovereignty and equality of all nations, peaceful resolution of disputes, and adherence to international law. He expressed confidence that cooperation and mutually accepted rules are essential foundations for peace and sustainable development.
The Prime Minister stated that the Thai government reaffirmed these principles during the 81st United Nations General Assembly. Thailand is advancing its role in promoting cooperation at both global and regional levels. Hosting the 2026 IMF and World Bank Annual Meetings in Bangkok last month exemplified Thailand's tangible efforts to foster international cooperation, discussing global economic directions and future prospects. This underscores Thailand's readiness to serve as a bridge for understanding and expanding international collaboration within the UN framework, bilateral relations, and multilateral forums at all levels.
In closing, the Prime Minister reaffirmed Thailand's commitment to actively and constructively cooperate with the global community to uphold the United Nations' mission of maintaining peace, promoting cooperation, and sustainable development, ultimately leading to improved quality of life and well-being for all people.
