Prime Minister Anutin took advantage of his day off to visit Wat Phra That Doi Suthep in Chiang Mai with his wife before trying Italian food and responding to "Professor Pavin" after being asked why he does not promote Thai cuisine.
On 25 Oct 2026 GMT+7, Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, spent the weekend visiting Wat Phra That Doi Suthep in Chiang Mai and paid respects to the Buddha statue in the Mara Vichaya posture inside the main chapel.
He posted on Facebook a photo of himself and his wife, Thanon Niramis, circumambulating the temple, with the caption: "Paying respects to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, Chiang Mai."
There were also photos of the couple descending the 306-step Naga staircase of Wat Phra That Doi Suthep Ratchaworawihan, a historic temple and symbol of Chiang Mai.
"Pavin" asks, "Why don’t you eat Thai food?"
Later at 20:50, the Prime Minister posted again on Facebook, showing a meal with his wife in Chiang Mai, stating: "An Italian restaurant in Chiang Mai named AL DENTE, located downtown. It was worth stopping by after driving past. The spaghetti with clams, white wine sauce, salted anchovies, and the pizza here are very delicious. The owner is Thai and also the chef, named Chef Odd. #Very reasonable prices—this spaghetti costs 290 baht. The atmosphere is along the moat road. Give it a try."
Meanwhile, Facebook user Pavin Chachavalpongpun, a well-known academic, commented, "Why don’t you eat Thai food? Why not help promote Thai cuisine?" The Prime Minister replied, "This is a Thai restaurant, Thai chef, and all ingredients are Thai."
