Prime Minister Says Fastest No-Confidence Debate Likely in December, November Ministerial Schedule Fully Booked

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul expects the no-confidence debate to occur at the earliest in early December. He noted November is fully booked with ministerial duties that cannot be postponed, making it difficult to find a date since the opposition declined to use this week. He also ordered the Permanent Secretary of the Interior Ministry and executives to prepare complete information.

26 October 2026 GMT+7 Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul said in an interview at the Ministry of Interior that the no-confidence debate against the Cabinet, submitted by the opposition to the parliamentary president, was expected to take place this week. However, for reasons reportedly related to an inability to agree on timing, the debate did not proceed this week. November is quite difficult due to many ministers being occupied with domestic and international duties. The government itself must attend ASEAN and APEC meetings. Additionally, the Prime Minister of the People's Republic of China will visit Thailand, along with major OECD meetings and other ceremonies.

Therefore, he believes it will be hard to find a date in November because the opposition refused to use this week for the debate and to complete the process by the end of this week, which he thought was negotiable. He instructed all ministers to postpone their duties, most of which have been moved to November and cannot be delayed further. Hence, they must find an alternative time.

Anutin further revealed that the earliest possible time now appears to be early December, but it depends on the Speaker of the House of Representatives to decide. The government, when asked, said that only this period is available because 18 people will be questioned, nearly half from the government, mostly ministers overseeing ministries involved in foreign relations. For example, Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Supachai Sutthumpun is in final stages of accelerating FTA negotiations with three main countries: Europe, the U.S., and the UAE, which must be signed by November or the end of this year.

In addition, the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Transport also reported international duties. Therefore, the Permanent Secretary of the Interior Ministry and executives are asked to prepare more detailed information because the period from now until the no-confidence debate must occur before the parliamentary session closes on 22 December 2026. During this time, the Royal Cremation Ceremony will take place, making debate impossible then. Thus, the available time is limited. Nonetheless, he urged full preparation of all information, acknowledging key issues such as local examinations, flooding, compensation, disaster prevention, and the Department of Lands, which are main points the opposition will use in the debate. Therefore, information must be accurate and well prepared.

Meanwhile, Atthit Sampanrat, Permanent Secretary of the Interior Ministry, reported at a meeting on driving the ministry's key missions that the ministry is preparing for the no-confidence debate. The three Deputy Ministers of Interior chaired and summarized 82 key points already.
