Worasit flew urgently to Kamala Beach, Phuket Province, ordering the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) to deploy remote water pumps to accelerate drainage around the clock. He also established teams to monitor risk points and ensure safety.
At 5:00 p.m. on 26 Oct 2026, Deputy Minister of Interior Worasit Liangprasert visited Kamala Subdistrict, Kathu District, Phuket Province to urgently oversee flood conditions and coordinate relief efforts. He was accompanied by Romdon Hayaewa, Deputy Governor of Phuket, Wittaya Jitsupap, Kathu District Chief, and relevant government officials.
Worasit said that heavy rainfall has caused prolonged severe flooding in many areas of Phuket, significantly affecting residents' lives and safety. Upon inspecting critical points, water levels in several parts of Kamala Subdistrict remain high and require rapid drainage. He ordered the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) to promptly provide and install remote water pumps in the affected areas to continuously drain water from communities and transport routes into natural water sources around the clock.
“Additionally, I have instructed Phuket Province, Kathu District, and local administrative organizations to quickly integrate personnel, disaster relief machinery, and aid equipment to operate collaboratively and systematically. Teams have been established to continuously monitor water levels and assess risks at vulnerable points, preparing to respond if rainfall increases. They are also ready to assist residents in relocating belongings and closely safeguard lives and property,” Worasit said.
Worasit added that the primary goal is to alleviate the hardship of the people and minimize flood impacts as quickly as possible. The government and Ministry of Interior are deeply concerned for all affected residents and are accelerating continuous drainage efforts so Kamala Subdistrict and Kathu District can return to normal conditions, allowing residents to resume their daily lives promptly. He also emphasized that all officials must closely monitor and report progress, expedite distribution of relief supplies, and ensure public hygiene throughout the area. The Ministry of Interior stands ready to provide full support with resources and equipment until the flooding situation is fully resolved.
