Peoples Party Plans to Submit General Debate in November, Preempting No-Confidence Battle Against Government

The People's Party is preparing to counter the government by submitting a general debate motion in November, aiming to preempt the "no-confidence battle" due to a one-month gap. Party leaders were surprised by leaked news since the idea was only discussed within a small group, but the news spread widely in the evening.

On 28 Oct 2026 GMT+7, reporters noted that after the joint coordination committee meeting of the House of Representatives to set dates and times for the no-confidence debate under Article 151 of the Constitution, representatives from the Cabinet, opposition MPs, government MPs, and MPs from the Kla Tham party attended the meeting.

The meeting decided on a four-plus-one-day schedule from 7 to 11 December, totaling 72 hours for debate: 51 hours for the opposition, 17 hours for the Cabinet’s explanation, and 4 hours allocated to the meeting chair.

Recently, reports indicated that the opposition, led by the People's Party, is considering submitting a general debate motion without a vote under Article 152 of the Constitution in November. This can be done once per year, divided into two sessions, allowing two types of debates within the same session. However, only one submission each of Articles 151 and 152 is permitted per year.

This proposal remains a concept among a small group of People's Party leaders. The rationale is to pave the way for the no-confidence debate scheduled for 7-11 December and to prevent a one-month political gap before the parliamentary session closes on 22 December. After the idea surfaced, the information became widely known in the evening, causing significant surprise among party leaders.

However, clarity on this proposal is awaited from the opposition whip, Parit Watcharasindhu, a party-list MP from the People's Party and opposition whip chairman, who will provide an official explanation.
