Warning for Phuket Residents to Prepare for Rising Water Levels in Bang Yai Canal, Peak Expected Between 11 PM and Midnight Today

The Deputy Government Spokesperson warned residents along Bang Yai Canal and surrounding areas in Phuket to prepare by elevating their belongings to prevent damage. It is expected that the water level in the canal will peak between approximately 11:00 PM and midnight today.

On 28 October 2026, Ms. Ploytale Laksamee Sangchan, Deputy Spokesperson of the Office of the Prime Minister, disclosed that the Phuket City Municipality has issued a red alert warning residents living near Bang Yai Canal and nearby areas to prepare by raising their belongings. This follows heavy rains in some parts of Phuket province combined with a large inflow of water from adjacent areas into Bang Yai Canal, causing water levels to rise and increasing the risk of flooding if the rain continues.

Currently, Phuket City Municipality is closely monitoring the water situation, especially the volume of water flowing into Bang Yai Canal from outside areas. Observations show that water levels have risen by about 80 centimeters within less than 30 minutes. Officials have been instructed to continuously monitor water level trends and to inform residents along the canal to elevate their belongings to protect against potential damage.

Water levels are expected to reach their highest point between approximately 11:00 PM and midnight, which may affect the efficiency of water drainage.

Phuket City Municipality has installed and activated water pumps at the Engineering Department and at the mouth of Bang Yai Canal near Saphan Hin to expedite water drainage from the area. They continue to assess the situation and check the readiness of additional equipment.

“We urge residents along Bang Yai Canal and other at-risk areas to promptly elevate their belongings, closely follow official warnings, and be prepared to respond to rapidly changing water conditions. If any emergencies occur within Phuket City Municipality, especially in Talat Nuea and Talat Yai subdistricts, please contact the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, Phuket City Municipality, at 076-211111 or 199, or the Phuket City Municipality hotline at 1132,” Ms. Ploytale said.
