Government Concerned for Phuket Flood Victims, Accelerates Relief via National Catastrophe Insurance Program

The government is concerned for those affected by flooding in Phuket Province and has ordered expedited relief under the National Catastrophe Insurance Program, also providing guidance on how to file claims for compensation.

On 29 October 2026, Ms. Ploytale Lakshmisangchan, Deputy Spokesperson for the Office of the Prime Minister, stated that the government is concerned for flood victims in Phuket Province and has commanded swift relief under the National Catastrophe Insurance Program. She emphasized that agencies and state officials should quickly ensure that flood victims understand the steps to claim insurance benefits to avoid losing rights or encountering claim issues. She stressed the importance of enabling victims to access coverage conveniently and promptly. Additionally, she ordered close monitoring of the situation, mobilizing personnel to watch water levels, accelerating water drainage from affected areas, and preparing for incoming water flows into Phuket Municipality due to continuous rainfall.

Ms. Ploytale explained that for submitting photos to claim disaster insurance benefits, the Office of Insurance Commission requires at least one and no more than three photos, clearly showing the house and the damage. If the house has a number, the photo should include both the house and number together. If no house number exists, additional information can be entered into the system.

In cases of flooding, photos should show the water condition around the house. For flash floods, photos of actual damage must be submitted to support claim evaluation. The disaster insurance covers only Thai nationals. In cases of death, compensation will be paid to heirs according to guidelines, while disability benefits are paid directly to the insured individual.

Ms. Ploytale added that damage assessment is divided into two cases: "houses flooded" which are evaluated according to flood criteria, and "water surrounding the house," which requires verification that residents actually live there and have been impacted in their daily lives.

"The government urges state officials to assist the public, act as coordinators, and provide advice to reduce errors and expedite approval of disaster insurance payments as quickly as possible. Flood victims in Phuket Province can file claims via the main website: ThaiNatCat or the LINE Official Account: @ThaiNATCAT. Once documents are complete, insurance companies will approve and transfer funds to PromptPay accounts within 15 days," Ms. Ploytale said.
