The government supports household solar installation with a 50,000 baht subsidy, registration open until 31 January 2027. It emphasizes that tax benefits cannot be claimed twice. State welfare cardholders must verify electricity subsidy conditions before participating in the program.
On 29 October 2026, Ms. Lalida Perdivattana, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that under Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul's leadership, the government is promoting clean energy use and reducing citizens' electricity costs through the “People's Solar” project. The Cabinet approved on 27 October 2026 a budget of 50 billion baht to support equipment purchase and installation of household solar systems with 50,000 baht per household, capped at 1 million households nationwide. Registration opened from 27 October 2026 to 31 January 2027 through the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) and the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA), with over 50,000 registrations on the first day.
Ms. Lalida advised the public to check conditions before joining. The 50,000 baht subsidy cannot be combined with the Solar Rooftop tax exemption of up to 200,000 baht under Royal Decree No. 805 of 2026, which is a tax benefit based on actual expenses, not a direct cash refund from the government. State welfare cardholders may participate but must agree to forgo the 315 baht monthly electricity subsidy for 20 years from the date the solar system is connected to the grid. This does not mean relinquishing all other state welfare rights.
Participants must be Thai nationals, residential electricity users, with the applicant's name matching the electricity meter owner, and install a 5–10 kilowatt solar system through operators registered with the electricity authorities. They must apply for grid connection by 31 August 2027 and complete the connection by 30 September 2027. The subsidy will be paid only after fulfilling all conditions, not immediately upon registration.
“The government aims to reduce electricity expenses and increase opportunities for citizens to access clean energy long-term. Interested individuals are urged to study the details carefully, especially tax and electricity subsidy conditions, to make well-informed decisions and maximize benefits for their households,” Ms. Lalida stated.
