Chaiyachana Urges Government to Clarify State Solar Subsidy of 50,000 Baht While Citizens Must Pay Additional 90,000 Baht Themselves

Chaiyachana urges the government to clearly explain that while the state offers 50,000 baht for solar installation, citizens must pay an additional 90,000 baht themselves. He criticizes the government for acting like "Srithan Yachai" by providing incomplete information and advises initiating other projects that benefit the public more.

On 29 Oct 2026 GMT+7 at the parliament, Chaiyachana Dechadecho, a party-list MP from the Democrat Party, addressed the government's announcement of a 50,000 baht subsidy for household solar panel installation. He said the government should clearly inform the public that this subsidy covers only part of the total cost, as installation expenses average about 140,000 baht per household. This means citizens must pay an additional 90,000 baht themselves. He criticized the government for acting like "Srithan Yachai" by failing to provide complete information, causing public misunderstanding. Ultimately, this leftover cost could become household debt of 90,000 baht. He questioned why the government pushes citizens into more debt and called for comprehensive public understanding of the program before promoting it to encourage participation.

Chaiyachana further stated the government should clarify key details: 1. It should explain how citizens can calculate expected electricity bill reductions from solar installation. 2. It must specify the lifespan of solar panels and how expired panels will be managed, as they become hazardous waste posing disposal burdens on local authorities. 3. Not every household can immediately install panels due to roof structure strength, site conditions, and suitability. 4. The government should consider using this budget to assist citizens in other areas that better address their difficulties and provide wider benefits. He urged the prime minister to carefully evaluate whether any new project genuinely benefits the people. If other projects can more effectively resolve public hardships, they should be considered to maximize the public value of every baht of state budget.
