Sathit denied rumors that opposition coalition parties plan to hold a debate without a vote under Section 152, stating that for the Democrat Party, the matter is settled with a clear focus on thoroughly scrutinizing individual ministers under Section 151.
30 Oct 2026 GMT+7 Mr. Sathit Wongnongtoei a party-list Member of Parliament and deputy leader of the Democrat Party, spoke regarding the proposal by the People’s Party MPs, as the opposition coalition leader, suggesting that opposition partners submit a general debate without a vote under Section 152 of the Constitution. to counter the government’s delay in holding individual minister no-confidence votes under Section 151 of the Constitution. He said the Democrat Party has not discussed this idea within the opposition whip and there has been no discussion within the Democrat Party itself.
Personally, he sees it as just a rumor. Importantly, the Democrat Party is focused on the no-confidence debate under Section 151, having held multiple preparatory meetings, including reviewing information assigned to each member. Therefore, they have not considered submitting a general debate under Section 152 at all.
When asked if the opposition whip meetings have ever discussed submitting a debate under Section 152, Sathit said that over two months ago, they began discussing whether to submit a motion under Section 151 or 152. The reason at that time was that the government’s behavior justified a no-confidence debate under Section 151, rather than a general debate without a vote under Section 152, because there were clear behavioral and factual grounds. They therefore decided to submit under Section 151.
Sathit added, He said he understands that the current rumors about Section 152 do not have confirmed proposers, but at that meeting, the decision was final to submit a no-confidence motion on individual ministers under Section 151. They discussed timing, pros, and cons then. He acknowledged the government has many difficult conditions, making it hard to challenge, but that is not a problem. With debate dates set, clarity is established. From now on, the focus is on preparing the best information for the debate until someone requests to submit a motion for a Section 152 debate. At that point, they will reconsider. For now, they ask not to speculate or assume anything.
Regarding preparation for the Section 151 no-confidence debate, Sathit said after obtaining the schedule, they only need to meet again. Initial discussions have had each party identify key issues. If important issues arise, they will discuss how to direct their efforts and how to assign speaking roles and time. They expect to meet next week. The Democrat Party has concluded its discussions and remains committed to focusing on Section 151.
