The government revealed that in the Phuket flooding incident, 181 disaster insurance claims have been filed. The Office of Insurance Commission (OIC) has been ordered to expedite processing so the public receives their rights quickly and comprehensively, emphasizing that no rights should be overlooked due to any oversight or omission.
On 30 Oct 2026 GMT+7, Ms. Ploytale Laksameesangchan, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, stated that continuous heavy rains in Phuket caused flash floods, flash mudflows, and landslides. These events severely damaged homes, businesses, roads, and public areas in Mueang, Kathu, and Thalang districts. In Thalang, conditions have returned to normal and the storm disaster emergency has been officially declared over, while Mueang district remains under close water level monitoring.
Ms. Ploytale added that to ensure urgent assistance reaches the public in line with government policy and the national disaster insurance scheme effective from 1 Oct 2026, the government is integrating cooperation among the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), the Office of Insurance Commission (OIC), and the Thai General Insurance Association. These agencies are coordinating on-site in Phuket to facilitate and monitor relief efforts for flood victims and provide guidance on registering for rights under the national disaster insurance policy, following all procedures closely.
Ms. Ploytale further explained that due to the damage in Phuket, 181 disaster insurance claims have been registered: 130 in Kathu district, 44 in Mueang Phuket, and 7 in Thalang. The DDPM, OIC, and the Thai General Insurance Association will expedite procedures to ensure victims receive their benefits quickly and thoroughly, as mandated by Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, who stressed that no rights should be overlooked.
“Victims can immediately claim coverage through the online system provided by the Thai General Insurance Association via four channels: 1) Website: www.thainatcat.org 2) LINE Official Account: @ThaiNATCAT 3) Customer service center: phone 0-2012-5555 4) Local claim points at affected areas. The government emphasizes that flood victims must be able to claim under the national disaster insurance according to conditions, ensuring no rights are missed,” Ms. Ploytale said.
