The Democrat Party urges not to accuse their concern as attention-seeking, encourages immediate action without needing to relearn lessons, establishes aid centers, accelerates disaster insurance claims, and expands the flood.democrat.or.th platform for reporting flood and landslide coordinates in the southern region.
31 Oct 2026 GMT+7 Mr. Pongsakorn Kwanmuang, spokesperson for the Democrat Party, held a press conference regarding the flood and landslide situation in the southern region. He stated that last week, Ms. Duangrutai Buakaew, Deputy Spokesperson of the Democrat Party, expressed concern and issued early warnings particularly for Trang and Phuket provinces, urging the government to prepare emergency response plans and relief measures. However, the government’s deputy spokesperson responded by accusing the Democrat Party of acting out of attention-seeking.
Mr. Pongsakorn said the actual damage situation, especially in Phuket, which is the home province of the government’s deputy spokesperson, clearly proves that the Democrat Party’s statements are not attention-seeking but genuine warnings out of concern for the real suffering of the people. He suggested that the government’s deputy spokesperson may have been working only in Bangkok and thus has not heard the hardships of southern residents. He urged the government to change its stance, listen with empathy, and urgently address the problems.
To prevent the southern flood crisis from worsening and repeating past disasters like those in Hat Yai district or Bangkok, two key points were proposed:
1. Clarity regarding the disaster relief coordination center. Although such a center has been set up in Phuket, the government must widely communicate its authority and responsibilities, inform the public what assistance they can request, and specify which supplies or support are still lacking to ensure efficient and targeted aid.
2. Compensation and benefits from disaster insurance. In the past, victims in Bangkok missed out on full compensation due to rigid legal criteria, such as 5,000 baht for water surrounding the house and 9,000 baht for water entering the house, and the insurance did not cover incidents occurring during the transitional period before 1 October 2026.
. However, the current floods and landslides in Phuket and southern provinces clearly occurred after 1 October, qualifying for the government disaster insurance coverage. The Democrat Party therefore urges the administration to expedite damage assessments and provide prompt and fair compensation.
They emphasized that funds from the disaster insurance program must truly help affected citizens and not be diverted as benefits for vested interests involved in managing insurance premiums.
“Residents of Phuket, the south, and many other areas are currently experiencing floods after 1 October. We urge the government to carefully consider and promptly support southern residents and others affected, ensuring they receive disaster insurance that genuinely reaches those suffering from flooding,” they said.
Expansion of platform to assist with floods and landslides in the south, allowing precise location reporting to responsible authorities.
Subsequently, the Democrat Party spokesperson team expressed concern over ongoing disasters in various parts of Thailand and announced the expansion of a digital platform to report incidents and coordinate targeted assistance for affected people.Mr. Jirawat Changwat, Deputy Spokesperson of the Democrat Party, stated that due to natural disasters impacting citizens from Bangkok and the central region to the recent southern floods, the party has continuously assisted these areas and developed a central system viathe website flood.democrat.or.th,
to enhance aid efficiency.
This system allows disaster victims to clearly specify their hardships, attach photos of actual damage at the scene, and mark precise locations and coordinates, enabling the Democrat Party to compile data for analysis and quickly relay information to relevant agencies or responsible parties for prompt assistance. Given the current flood and landslide crisis in the south, citizens there are invited to use this system to ensure their information is effectively utilized for disaster management and relief in surrounding areas.Ms. Duangrutai Buakaew, Deputy Spokesperson of the Democrat Party, conveyed her concern in the southern dialect to residents of several southern provinces facing heavy rains, flooding, and landslides in Phuket, emphasizing that affected people can immediately request help through theflood.democrat.or.th system. The Democrat Party stands ready to support citizens and work together to overcome this disaster crisis.
