"Suriya" is advancing cooperation with Russia to promote agricultural and food security by opening export markets for pet food, processed fishery products, and fruits, while elevating trade networks between the two countries.
31 Oct 2026 GMT+7 Mr. Suriya Juangroongruangkit, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, delivered a special keynote speech titled " Food Security : Agricultural Trade and Regulations" on the occasion of the 2nd Russia-Thailand Investment Forum held at the Royal Orchid Sheraton Riverside Hotel. He stated that food security is a fundamental pillar for sustainable economic development, social stability, and world peace, especially amid global challenges such as climate change and supply chain uncertainties.
Furthermore, to address global volatility, the Ministry of Agriculture places great importance on expanding international cooperation alongside increasing agricultural trade opportunities, focusing on three key approaches:
1. Building networks of reliable partners to strengthen trade security and ensure continuity in agricultural and food supplies.
2. Diversifying sources of agricultural and food supplies to reduce risks from dependence on any single source.
3. Developing efficient logistics systems to ensure uninterrupted transportation and distribution of agricultural products.
Additionally, he held discussions with Mr. Vladimir Elishov, Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, Governor of Krasnodar Region, and the Russian Ambassador to Thailand to expand cooperation in agriculture and food, addressing risks from climate change and supply chain uncertainties.
Both sides agreed to leverage the strengths and potentials of each country to enhance food security, upgrade agricultural and food systems, add value to agricultural products, and expand trade opportunities. They aim to open markets and increase exports of promising Thai agricultural products to Russia, including pet food, processed fishery products, fresh and processed tropical fruits, and rice. Meanwhile, Russia expressed interest in exporting agricultural products to Thailand such as premium beef, grains, wheat, seafood, and rapeseed oil. Both parties will discuss further detailed cooperation under the framework of future Thailand-Russia agricultural meetings.
