Rome Advises Caution Over Rumors of Thaksin Trading Votes for No-Confidence Debate

Rangsiman Rome advised caution regarding rumors that Thaksin Shinawatra pressured the Peacebuilding Committee to accept amnesty petitions in exchange for votes in the no-confidence debate, affirming his commitment to fully perform his duties as opposition.

31 Oct 2026 GMT+7 Mr. Rangsiman Rome a party-list Member of Parliament and deputy leader of the People’s Party, spoke about rumors alleging former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra pressured the Peacebuilding Committee to accept amnesty petitions in exchange for votes during the no-confidence debate, saying if such a deal really exists, he believes the public would likely see through it. He emphasized that they will fulfill their opposition role, while acknowledging they cannot control how other parties play their strategies.

What they can do is present evidence to parliament. Upon seeing the evidence, he hopes both opposition and government politicians will exercise common sense for the national interest when voting on issues like Senate collusion. He stressed that they will definitely proceed with the no-confidence debate and questioned whether politicians in parliament can accept such crimes against democracy.

Rangsiman added that while they cannot stop how others conduct political maneuvers, citizens must help scrutinize these matters. On one hand, if the government has no weaknesses or the rumors are false, there would be no reason for fear. But if such bargaining occurs, it reveals real vulnerabilities. Justice cannot prevail when self-interest interferes, so thorough examination is necessary.

When asked whether the rumors, if true, amount to a political charade deceiving the public, Rangsiman said he prefers not to comment given the lack of clear facts. He acknowledged that as a politician, during no-confidence motions there are factions even within the government and the ruling party that are unstable. He has received information from sources like Natasha and suggested that these vulnerabilities might be exploited for bargaining, though he does not know for sure. He expressed his belief that the stronger the opposition’s debate, the more likely bargaining prices will increase. He refrained from specifying which party might be spreading the rumors, advising caution and to "listen carefully". ."
