Abhisit Reveals Democrat Party Prepares 8 Key Figures to Challenge 4 Ministers in No-Confidence Debate

Abhisit reveals the Democrat Party is preparing 8 key figures to challenge 4 ministers in the no-confidence debate.   He hinted at issues including collusion in Senate appointments, corruption in local examinations, political encroachment by grey capital, and government failure to resolve the economic crisis. He thanked the Prime Minister for praising the opposition's constructive approach and expressed a commitment to work for the public interest.

On 2 Nov 2026 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok, Abhisit Vejjajiva, party-list MP and leader of the Democrat Party, spoke about preparations for the no-confidence debate against ministers. The party currently has about 7-8 members intending to speak. They have begun rehearsing to arrange the topics coherently to clearly demonstrate their lack of confidence in the government's management. They expect to target at least 3-4 ministers. The issues to be raised include ongoing concerns such as the selection of senators, corruption in local government exams, and the influence of grey capital groups that the party has monitored from the start.

When asked if they would address worries about the rising cost of living and economic crisis affecting daily life, Abhisit said this has been the opposition's consistent stance, especially regarding the energy crisis. Evidence increasingly shows solutions that reduce living costs without burdening the government with massive loans. The initial 200 billion baht loan has nearly been exhausted without sustainable results. The second 200 billion baht loan raises greater concerns due to lack of readiness and transparency, along with objections to related projects such as the solar cell program for citizens. He urged the government to promptly review and resolve these issues.

Thanks to the Prime Minister for praising the opposition's constructive role.

When reporters asked about the Prime Minister's commendation of his leadership of a constructive opposition, Abhisit expressed gratitude and affirmed that both he and the Democrat Party are committed to fulfilling their opposition role fully. They avoid damaging good relations with colleagues and strive to ensure the public trusts their oversight is constructive and genuinely serves the public interest.
