“Akranant” made a surprise inspection of school lunches at Ban Somwilai School in Udon Thani Province, hoping to see the real situation. He emphasized that children must eat quality food that is sufficient and appropriate for their age, and nothing less than that should be accepted from the school.
On 2 Nov 2026, Mr. Akranant Kankittinan, Deputy Minister of Education, stopped by Ban Somwilai School to follow up on the provision of school lunches to students without prior notice during an official inspection tour in Thung Fon District, Udon Thani Province. He observed the food menu, preparation process, and the actual meals the students received each day.
Mr. Akranant said that this visit was intended to personally review the school lunches because he wanted to see what food the children receive, whether the quality and quantity are sufficient, and if the nutrition matches their age. He stressed that school lunch is a critical issue because it directly impacts children's health and development.
“I want to personally see what food the children eat daily, not just review reports or data submitted to me. I want to see the real situation — what the children actually eat, whether the food is appropriate in quality, cleanliness, and quantity sufficient for the number of students. The unannounced visit is to ensure we see the normal food arrangements and hear the facts directly from the field,” Mr. Akranant said.
Mr. Akranant added that every student should have equal access to quality school lunch, whether in small or large schools, because good food is a fundamental basis for growth and learning. The Ministry of Education must continuously monitor and ensure that the allocated budget truly benefits the students.
Furthermore, conducting surprise school inspections is an important approach to listen to problems and monitor the actual operations of schools. This allows the ministry to use the information to improve and develop education management, as well as to enhance students’ quality of life more effectively.
