Justice Minister Reveals Thaksins Amnesty Request Included in Subcommittee Meeting Agenda

The Justice Minister revealed that Thaksin Shinawatra's amnesty petition has been placed on the agenda of the Subcommittee for Case Screening, awaiting opinions to be forwarded to the Committee for the Promotion of Peaceful Society for further consideration.

At 12:00 PM on 4 Nov 2026 GMT+7, Police Lieutenant General Ruthapon Naowarat, the Justice Minister, spoke about the progress of the first meeting of the Subcommittee for Case Screening, chaired by Piyasiri Wattanavarangkul, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice. Regarding the timeline for reviewing amnesty petitions related to various political protest cases before submitting them to the Committee for the Promotion of Peaceful Society, he said that Deputy Prime Minister Pakorn Nilprapunt, who also chairs the Committee, intends to convene a meeting as soon as possible to consider all matters. This means the Subcommittee does not necessarily have to complete all reviews at once; cases ready for consideration can be forwarded to the Committee promptly. Moreover, if anyone involved wishes to submit additional petitions to the Subcommittee later, they may do so, and reviews will proceed incrementally. Once the Subcommittee's opinions are submitted to the Committee for the Promotion of Peaceful Society, the Justice Minister expects a resolution to be made quickly.

Regarding the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice's mention of a second meeting that will include former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra's amnesty petition—submitted under the 2026 Act on the Promotion of Peaceful Society—the Justice Minister acknowledged that if the petition has entered the Subcommittee's agenda and the Subcommittee forms an opinion, it will then be submitted sequentially to the Committee for the Promotion of Peaceful Society for further consideration.
