Je Set confirmed that the lightning strike case involving a youth golfer in Paed Riew meets the insurance criteria for a 2 million baht compensation payout. He revealed that Chachoengsao province is currently proceeding with declaring the area a disaster zone.
On 4 November 2026 at 14:00 in the 7th-floor meeting room of the General Insurance Association, Je Set Thai Set, Deputy Minister of the Interior (MoI-3), attended to monitor disaster insurance operations. He held discussions with the General Insurance Association and insurance company representatives to receive updates and explore ways to integrate insurance systems with government databases. The goal is to ensure accurate, rapid, and efficient verification of entitlements and claim payments, thereby assuring the public that they will receive coverage as entitled.
After the meeting, Je Set disclosed details of the lightning strike incident during a youth golf tournament in Chachoengsao province on 1 November 2026, which resulted in the death of Miss Aeyawarin Pradab-yati. Upon reviewing the group accident insurance policy terms, the incident qualifies for coverage under death caused by a storm-related disaster, including lightning, with a compensation limit of 2,000,000 baht.
Currently, Chachoengsao province is in the process of declaring the area a disaster zone and preparing the necessary documents and evidence to submit a claim in accordance with the insurance policy terms. The Ministry of Interior will closely monitor and coordinate with relevant agencies to ensure the deceased's family receives full benefits under the coverage.
Je Set added that the government’s disaster insurance program provides coverage for three major hazards: floods, storms, and earthquakes. This lightning strike case falls within the covered perils, demonstrating that the insurance system is a vital mechanism to provide security and reduce hardship for people when unexpected disasters occur.
"It is evident that disaster insurance is valuable because it offers protection to citizens during times of crisis. The key is that people must receive coverage as entitled, and the system must operate efficiently by linking government databases, verifying facts, and processing claims to ensure aid is delivered quickly and comprehensively," he said.
Je Set also stated that his visit to monitor operations aimed to gain updates and ensure that the insurance system and government data systems can truly work in harmony. This integration reduces redundant verification, prevents data omissions, and allows citizens to access benefits conveniently, especially during disasters when timely assistance is crucial.
The Ministry of Interior will continue to work closely with the General Insurance Association, insurance companies, and relevant agencies to develop the disaster insurance system into a reliable guarantee that citizens can trust, providing tangible support when disasters occur.
